On August 3, 2016, a delegation from the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), led by CEO Grégoire Ndjaka, met with the newly appointed Director General of Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV), Charles Ndongo, at the broadcaster’s headquarters in Mballa II, Yaoundé. The courtesy visit offered an opportunity to strengthen ties and align on upcoming regional broadcast initiatives.
During the meeting, Mr. Ndjaka congratulated Mr. Ndongo on his presidential appointment, which was finalized on July 29, 2016. The two broadcast leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation and maximize shared opportunities between their organizations.
Accompanied by Audrey Kamsu, AUB’s Head of Member Relations, Mr. Ndjaka presented several flagship Union initiatives. Key among them was the “One-Minute Project,” a collaborative venture where each participating member state provides a single promotional spot free of charge to air daily during prime-time radio and television broadcasts over 365 days. Cameroon is among ten African nations that have signed the Memorandum of Understanding, with remaining member states expected to follow.
The discussion also covered the OVERON project and FIFA “Other Events” (OFE), for which the AUB recently secured exclusive retransmission and marketing rights.
Finally, the leaders touched on the ongoing challenge of securing sports broadcast rights for African public service media—a issue addressed during a high-level summit in Dakar, Senegal, on May 17, 2016. That meeting convened national broadcast directors from across the continent, with Cameroon represented by former CRTV Director General Amadou Vamoulké and newly appointed Deputy Director General Emmanuel Wongibe.
